We’re all susceptible to feelings of inadequacy, even if we made it through college and earned a degree. We’re also likely to suffer from imposter syndrome, even if we have a job in our field and get good ratings on our performance reviews.

It’s hard to overcome this adversity, especially when you add in problems in your personal life and what’s going on in society at large. Sometimes it seems like the easiest thing to do would be to let the negativity roll over you; hide until you think it’s safe to come out.

Christmas Hutchinson has been there with the rest of us. She’s had struggles washing over in her in waves, but instead of letting them drown her, Hutchinson rose above. She realized that resilience was what you needed to overcome adversity, but how can someone teach resilience?

Hutchinson wrote a book sharing her personal experiences and built a coaching and public speaking business based on resilience. She shares some of the more common life situations to a broad audience so everyone can relate.

Rise above hardships and live an extraordinary life

About Christmas Hutchinson

Christmas Hutchinson took a crash course in resilience when she was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer while going through a divorce. She felt beaten down, but instead of giving in to the negativity, Hutchinson overcame adversity and fought for herself and her happiness.

Hutchinson uses her experiences to teach growth mindset strategies that help other people rise above hardships, whether extraordinary or every day.

In the course of her studies, Hutchinson found that a growth mindset is closely linked to confidence. She broadened the scope of her research to include imposter syndrome in the workplace.

Hutchinson is a past president of the Alexandria, Virginia chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. In this role, she mentored teenage girls, raised money for college scholarships, and provided meals to low-income residents of the area.

Coaching

Hutchinson uses all of this knowledge as the core of her coaching business to help others try, fail, and try again, just as she did. She offers Rise Up, a monthly coaching program to boost your confidence and tackle your imposter syndrome.

In addition to the monthly coaching plan, Hutchinson teaches a masterclass entitled “Confidently Land Your Dream Job.” You might think you’ve been doing the right thing to get ahead in business, but Hutchinson has some tips that will help you send your best self forward.

Instead of polishing your resume for each job position, Hutchinson teaches you how to step back and take stock of your education and talents. Once you realize what you’re good at, you’ll have more clarity about what fields and organizations would be a good fit. She inspires people to focus on what they love rather than just what their degree says they can do.

Hutchinson says these tasks help you align your career with your life’s purpose. Stripping back all of your preconceived notions on your job leaves the foundation of what you care about and what you’re good at, and from there, you can build back towards the role that is best for you.

Applying for a job isn’t just about having the best resume to stand out from the crowd. Hutchinson uses her business and marketing experience to help you become a personal brand. She enables you to turn your qualifications into a compelling story that will show managers exactly how you will benefit the company.

This masterclass will not only give you a leg up in the job hunt, but will also empower you to overcome the imposter syndrome that has been looming over you. Once Hutchinson helps you see the scope of your qualifications, you’ll get a dose of confidence to propel you over your next hurdle in life.

Hutchinson doesn’t only want you to land your dream job because that’s just a by-product of her coaching. The real purpose is to enable you to find your authentic self and live a life that uses your skills to help others and make you happy.

Qualifications

Before these life-changing experiences, Hutchinson worked as an accountant and management consultant for 18 years. She was a Risk and Regulatory affairs advisor to the top 5 global financial institutions. She has also worked as an executive in the Competitive Intelligence office at Verizon Media.

In addition to her work experience, Hutchinson earned a bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from California State University and a Master’s of Business Administration from Johns Hopkins University.

Hutchinson founded Simply Resilient in 2017 and began sharing her life challenges and thoughts on resilience there. She used the space to serve as an inspiration for others who wanted to improve their mindset. The blog fueled her desire to write a book, and The Resilient Mind: A Field Guide to a Healthier Way of Life was published in September 2018 by Bowker.
